Halloween

Oooh, it's the spoooky day before Halloween! I won't be online tomorrow so I have decided to post a Wiz101 poem I wrote for the occasion early :)

It's Halloween night in Wizard City!
The sky is dark and the stars are pretty.
A heckhound howls at the light of the moon;
the monster hour is arriving soon!
"Take care, young wizard!" Ambrose warns.
"For in Dark Cave the Scarlet Screamer mourns."
All around the are ghoulish creatures,
and a Ravenwood school full of trick-or-treaters.
On every street the feet pitter-patter.
Wandering spirits moan and skeletons clatter.
Wizards dressed as ninja pigs are running past,
gathering up candy fast, fast, FAST!
And I, avoiding Dark Cave, have fun with the rest,
looking around to see whose costume is best.
The spiral is alive with laughter and fright.
Oh, Halloween... such a wonderful night!

Have a great Halloween everybody!

Filming closed, no more cast recruits.

Well today's filming was kind of fail. Only a couple people showed up and I was about to cancel but they brought a few friends so we managed to have a decent small group. Normally I wouldn't be very bothered by this but I had a very very bad night last night (think of your worst nightmare and then imagine how you'd feel if it almost happened to you), and even though I really, really wanted to cancel, I didn't because I didn't want to disappoint a bunch of people. Turns out a bunch of people disappointed me.

So I've decided I will not be taking extras in my videos anymore, I will only be using a couple friends as extras from now on. For those who actually care, I'm very sorry, I would really love to let more people be in my videos but it's just too hard working with other people on a "serious" project. Maybe someday I'll start a series that I don't care about the filming quality of but for now I'm just gonna focus on finishing this one on my own. I'd like to thank everyone who helped me today and everyone who's been in any of the episodes as well, you guys have really helped to make the series great and I hope you can understand my decision.

Anyhoodle, I actually did this filming before finishing the script for the episode (I tend to put the cart before the horse like that sometimes), so it will be quite a while before Ep. 4 is out, especially since I start school Monday so I won't have decent internet till the weekends. I will try to work on finishing the script in the meantime though, so there is some progress in that.

Um um um... what else... Oh, I'm going to see Scott Pilgrim today :D Should be a good distraction from what happened last night. And... hmm, well I think that's pretty much it.

Safe journeys, everyone!

Filming info for ep. 4 of That's Life!

Yup, it's that time again... filming time!

[x-posted from W101C]

Here's the info you need to know to be in the next episode of That's Life!:

TIME: 1pm pacific time (look on google to convert it to your time zone)
PLACE: Life tower (NOT the life classroom this time. Life tower)

  • Anyone of any school is welcome to come (but preferably only people with text chat)
  • This time we will be allowed to wear our regular clothes (however pets and wands will still be unequipped)
  • Please listen to me and follow my rules when filming, so we can get it done quickly, hopefully in half an hour or less.
  • We start at least 5 minutes after the meeting time, try to get there on time if you wanna be in the episode!
  • If I make any changes to the date, I will make the updates on here or my blog so try to keep track of this post.
That's pretty much it! Everything else you need to know, I will tell you on the filming day. Hope to see you guys there!

Advice from Autumn - Celestica?

Here it is: my first question, answered via video! I jumped right on it because I know certain updates will be made to the game soon :)

In other news: There's a SyFy original movie premiering tonight called "Frost Giant". Although I don't think it's quite the same as the one we're familiar with...

 RAWR, I am... see-through?

Looks like a combination between Alien and the water spirit from Princess Mononoke. Well, I thought it was pretty interesting/lame looking.

Safe journeys everyone!

A Spiral special :)

You know those little comics I did called Advice from Autumn? Well, I decided to bring it back, except with a little twist to it! So, if you would like to help me out (pretty please), leave me a question about the Spiral, any question at all, and Autumn will give you some of her professional advice. Also, if you do submit a question, go ahead and leave your wizard's name as well so that I can credit you :)

Ummm... oh yeah! Here's a video for it!

Safe journeys, everyone!

Shame on me!

I've been away from the Spiral for a while now, and I apologize for lack of updates. I've been busy trying to register for Fall semester at my college (hopefully my final one!) and so I'm a bit stressed out. However, I'm still keeping up to date about all things Wizard 101, so yes I know about the increased server capacities and all that. Good for you KI! I'm so glad they're doing this prior to the release of Celestia. If the real release will be anything like the pre-world questline (and I know it will be), then we're gonna need all the server superpower that we can get!

Anyhoodle, in other news I'm still working on writing episode 4 of That's Life! (I use the word "working" loosely, since I kind of haven't written anything at all for it in days). It will be quite some time before filming for the next episode, probably a couple/few weeks, so I will tide you guys over with a short teaser of the script. Enjoy!

ZACHARY: Okay, so what's all this about?

AKITAME: As you most likely already know, your teacher Moolinda Wu is in quite a lot of trouble.

AUTUMN: Yeah, we gathered that.

AKITAME: But what you don't know, is why.

ZACHARY: No, we already know that too.

AKITAME: Oh? But how--

AUTUMN: Best not to ask reasons.

ZACHARY: We gave up doing that a long time ago.

AKITAME: I see. Well, then, you already know that we've exhausted our resources trying to find her.

AUTUMN: That we did not know.

ZACHARY: How is that possible? Mooshu is a world full of samoorais and martial artists! There's got to be someone who can look for her.

AKITAME: Ah, one would think so. And considering that we sent all our greatest masters, we thought so too. But there is nobody in Mooshu that is fit to rescue Moolinda Wu.

AUTUMN: Rescue? Hold on, you didn't tell us she was in grave danger! That puts a whole different spin on our mission.

AKITAME: What part of the word "Yakuza" does not suggest she could be in grave danger?

AUTUMN: Aren't you Mooddhists supposed to be peaceful? I figured what's the worst they could do?

AKITAME: We are Mooddhists, that much is true. But the Yakuza do not answer to him. And they go to great lengths for revenge.

ZACHARY: If you knew who we're talking about here then you'd be more worried for the people who have her...

AKITAME: Oh, I know Wu, alright. I know her well...

DUN DUN DUNNNN! Lol jk. But seriously, folks, this one's gonna be pretty epic. It's gonna be hard to keep topping the newest episodes with even better ones, but I'll certainly try! Lemme know what you think so far.

Safe journeys, everyone!

That's Life! Episode 3 - Scratch and Sniff

At last it is complete! This is in 2 parts because it was so long I had to split it in half. Youtube is lame like that.

Let me know what you think :)

EDIT: And here's a nice review from Kevin Battlblood, the Chillanthropologist!

Bravo! Very impressive work here. What you've applied and utilized was exactly what I was hoping to one day see in the Wizard101 Video Community: A twist on the original storyline, use of voices (decent job with the British and French accents, and not bad voice acting either!), and a brilliant mix of genres ranging from comedy to drama, yet mystery is still the umbrella on this episode.

What I really liked was the use of different camera angles that follows cinema theory; it gave a professional feel to the movie....

I'm excitedly looking forward to your next installment; keep up your creativity!

Thanks Kevin! You can expect a new installment sometime in the next few weeks :)

At last - It is done!...ish

[x-posted from W101C]

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up for the updated filming, I really appreciate it. I was so glad to see a lot of people returning and even a few new people, it makes me happy to know that the word is getting out about That's Life! and that people want to be a part of it :)

I do realize that some who were there last time could not be there this time, and I'm sorry for that. There will still be more chances for you to be in it so no worries! I will announce the next filming session a few weeks from now, so keep an eye out.

Anyways, thanks again to all the extras, I'm very grateful for your help :)

Now for the hard part: everything else.

A Friendly answer.

So, stingite from The Friendly Necromancer has been recruiting some people to take on a bit of his answering work load. Call it an experiment, if you will. Anyway, thought I'd give it a shot and see how I fare in the role of Friendly :P

Noah DreamBlood asks about pets, saying:
You can tell normally if its a hybrid or not depending on time it takes to hatch. School pets are 18 hrs i believe hybrids are 24 or so. And i mixed a colossus that had 54 with a stormzilla that was 53 and got another colossus that had 55, whats up with that? lol
Aha. Unfortunately Friendly happened to give me a question with a subject that I've very little expertise in. However, I can give it my best educated guess. It's what we college kids do best. /bitter chuckle

 That and sleeping in class.

The only level 48 pet that I've gotten since the pet updates is the wraith for my Necromancer, and as you said the hatch time was around 18 hours (that or 17 or 11; I get my numbers mixed up sometimes). A good deal of the higher level boss drop pets I've gotten are the same hatch time, lower level ones tend to be less (around 6 hours), and gift card pets even less than that (some of them just 3 minutes). Unfortunately I've never bred one of my own, let alone a hybrid, so I can't confirm your numbers, though I believe you in the matter of their hatch times.

 "Umm... little help over here?"

As for the numbers next to their names and how it relates to breeding and such, my first guess was that it represented the number of chromosomes for each breed, which would totally have explained why the baby came out with a new number (new species means a different amount of chromosomes). But according to people on Wizard101Central, the numbers next to your pet name is its pedigree, or in other words the sum of the traits it has already manifested. You know how when you're on your pet summary page in your spellbook, and next to its abilities there are little yellow pips? Well, when all the pips -- full ones and empty -- are added together, that makes the little 54 and 53 next to your parent pets names. As for the number in the parenthases, that is based just on all the full pips -- the yellow ones -- which is why it is substantially less than the first number. There's a fascinating guide for pedigrees HERE.

Now, when you breed pets together, the baby obtains the appearance, class type, and I think even some of the abilities(?) of the parent pet that has the higher stats. Your Colossus had the higher pedigree, but it was 54 and your baby pet had 55. Clearly there is a pattern in there somewhere, although truthfully I haven't the slightest idea what that pattern is. I never really question the all-knowing MCP that is Wizard101, especially when it comes to numbers. I'm kind of numeral phobic. Maybe since you paid a lot of gold for it the game wanted to give you that one extra point. Or maybe there was an added ability from the weaker parent pet. Or maybe they were just going in chronological order (53, 54, 55). It's a complete mystery to me. The most important thing that indicates your pet's abilities is the number in parenthases, as that is a number that rises with much training and care.

The MCP knows all...

If you happen to obtain a lot of gold over the course of your journeys, you should experiment some more, with pets of different schools and stats. I'm especially interested in seeing what people discover about crown pets as they seem like they can probably make some really nifty hybrids.

Fun fact: I wrote the word "pet(s)" 15 times, including the one just now.

Anyways, good luck in your search for the truth, and safe journeys young wizard!

OK, this time... seriously.

 [once again x-posted from W101C]

Here's the new filming info for That's Life!: Episode 3.

DATE: Monday, July 19th.

TIME: 1pm pacific time (if you don't know what time that is in your zone, google "time zone converter")

LOCATION: Life school classroom.

AREA: Wu server (subject to change during filming)

  • Same thing as last time: noob clothes, wands and pets unequipped.
  • Filming should take around half an hour.
  • Please no complaining or rushing. It will take however long it takes, I don't like being nagged when I'm trying to get the filming just right.
That's about it. I'm hoping for the same turn-out as last time but completely understand if there isn't. I know people's schedules are busy so thank you to everyone who makes time to do this. Note: I can't make any special changes or arrangements to the date for anyone, so don't ask. Sorry.

And this is how you fail.

Thanks to some friends from Wizard101 Central I was able to shoot the opening/ending scenes for the 3rd episode of That's Life! Although, it wasn't without a few problems (people coming in and out of the scene, extras not following directions, people randomly porting in). Then to top it all off, the footage was ruined. So, we're gonna have to do a re-shoot, hopefully sometime soon, and hopefully with all of the original cast, plus the extras who missed it last time.

This is very frustrating. I initially planned on hashing out the video by Monday/Tuesday. But I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I'm thinking I might need to unplug for a while, take some time off from the internet and just chill with some friends. I will probably just try to get the filming done first, then take the weekend off and edit the video next week. We'll see, I might not be able to get everyone to come when I finally decide to get around to it.

Anyhoodle, that's the frustrating news of the day. *growls*

Success!

Well last night I got my necromancer to level 48. Victoria Ravenblood is now a Master of Death! I just finished the obsidian chest quest for her and now I'm thinking of taking it nice and slow :P I mean, no hurry now that I got one of the most important things done (the scarecrow spell). Tomorrow will be a filming day for That's Life! episode 3, as well as probably Thursday, then I will be editing it on Thurs/Fri. Busy weekend, folks, very busy.

To celebrate my newfound success I will spend the rest of the day playing Left 4 Dead 2. Woot!

Safe journeys, everyone!

This and that - A bit of news for ya.

So, I haven't logged into the game for a couple weeks, even though I'm so close... SO CLOSE... to getting my necromancer to lvl 48. This is for a few reasons, the main being that I'm burnt out on the grind of sidequesting. I know this is not so much of a problem because of the newest updates but still... just need to let this boredom run its course before getting back into the swing of things. Maybe I'll just wait till Celesita comes out so I'll have something to motivate me to finish DS lol.

The other main reason is I had an encounter with yet another "friend" who just used me to level up. Oh it just never gets old. They always find the strangest excuses to not return the favor of helping you out on quests, and then suddenly they just never log on again. Lol I'm so glad necromancy is great for soloing because I am never gonna fall for the whole "quest buddy" thing again. Seriously, I'm so over that.

But anyway, in spite of my whole misanthropy, I have indeed scheduled a filming session for my next episode of That's Life! (which you can read HERE) and I've been expediting my hashing out of the 4th script as well. Must satisfy the masses, ya know (all 3 of the people who care, I mean). We're about halfway through the series now! Thanks to the approaching addition of Celestia, it will be extended out for another episode though. Yay, I think. Episode 3 is gonna be a mystery/comedy, episode 4 is gonna be... well, I'm not quite sure. My plots become more and more convoluted as they go on :P Episode 5 will be pretty epic, I have it planned out a bit in my mind (though I really should write some of my ideas for it down so I'll remember). Episode 6 was going to be for GH but since Celestia may be out before I get to that point, I will be waiting to finish that world so I can make it the 6th episode. The last episode will be for GH, and it's not really going to have a plot (I hope)!

Anyhoodle, that's pretty much all I've been up to. What have you all been doing lately?

Safe journeys!

Just waitin'... waitin' waitin'.

Everyone already knows by now that the new updates are live, but I figured I'd say it anyway. New updates are live. Just waited a pretty good amount of time for the patching and then *GASP* woe is me!

Apparently one of the updates is if you're a f2p player, you're ushered to the sidelines since subscribers are priority. This includes crowns players who have gone past the 30 day limit of buying crowns.

Hmm... this is discouraging.

Oh well. For those who are allowed in the game, safe journeys!

Filming info for That's Life!: Ep. 3.

[x-posted from official thread on W101C. Read it HERE]

Good news to those who hate to wait! I've decided that I don't need to level up prior to filming the classroom scene, so we can do this sooner rather than later. Here's the 411:

Date: Wednesday, July 14th*
Time: 1pm Pacific time (2pm Mountain time, 3pm Central time, 4pm Eastern)**
Place: Inside the Life School classroom.
Server: Wu (this may change depending on how crowded it is, but we are definitely meeting on this server)
  • Filming will take from about half an hour to an hour tops.
  • We will be in our noob outfits, no pets or wands will be equipped during the filming.
  • Limit of 30 people (I don't think this will be an issue but I have to stress that there can't be too many people. I would really prefer people who have text chat since that's the only way you can hear my instructions)
  • Note: I'm not sure just how many people will actually be seen on the screen at one time. If we cram together just right we might fit 15-20 but some people will be cut off. Either way, I will credit your wizards at the end of the episode. Please only arrive with 1 wizard per person, it would be very uncool of someone was left out because somebody wants double screen time :P
I think that's pretty much it. If anyone has any questions or comments at all regarding the filming, by all means let me know! I've already done a rough recording of the dialog for episode 3 and I can tell you right now this is definitely going to be the best one yet! I should be starting the script for number 4 soon but I can't make any guarantees about how good it will be. It will probably take a lot longer to work on than the others, but that just means I will be putting more thought into it. Also, a lot of extras will be needed for #4, so be sure to tune in often to my threads so you can know when filming will be. Thanks so much everyone!

*Date is subject to change, but most likely won't so no worries.
**Estimated time based on time zone differences, so that everyone can be in the same place at the same time. I got some people confused last filming party because I forgot to do the conversions.

Edit: And another thing! Here's a nice little review someone just gave my series :D

Four words to say about That's Life:
It. Is. Funny. AWESOMESAUCEFULLNESS!

I watched the videos last night, and even though I couldn't hear well (Volume of iTouch, I think), I was laughing hard. Then this afternoon I showed it to my siblings who were just cracking up! I got CODY to crack, and he doesn't laugh to easily. I think they liked the part when Moolinda was yelling at Zachary. Cody also liked the guiding light part. Vanessa liked when Autumn says: "Yeah. It felt really good!" when Zach asked if she insulted his mom. I personally like when Moolinda's like, "They're big, smelly, and throw really large thongs at your head" and "She's ruthless, agressive, and tries to seduce you with her bright pink lipstick".

I'm gonna be there for the shooting!

Thank you, writingnecromancer! <333

Choices - They must be made.

To play, or not to play. That is the question.

I just finished playing all the official maps on L4D2 and I don't really feel like downloading any custom ones. I'm totally burnt out on Combat Arms so I don't want to play that, though I am also a bit burnt out on Wizard 101 again. But I really want to get Victoria Ravenblood to GM so she can get into Celestia when it comes out. Plus I just don't wanna leave her unfinished again >_<

Gah, why must my choices be so HARD? *shakes fist at the heavens*

...

Meh, I guess I'll just go eat breakfast and think it over.

Sir Rex: That's probably a "yes".

Test realm - Where it's cool to be a wizard.

For any grandmaster who wasn't able to get on the test realm, I got a bit of news for you about all the new updates coming to the spiral (besides the obvious addition of the quest line leading to Celestia).

  • New stuff in the crown shop - A Grizzleheim themed house (FINALLY!) and a beastmaster outfit which does nothing but increase your pet's training points, so unless you don't care about your wizard's stats, it's pretty useless.
  • New crafting recipes - Torald Wayfinder in Northguard can sell you a recipe for another Grizzleheim house. Gotta admit, after taking a tour of both of them, the outside of the crowns one is prettier, but all around the crafted one is better and costs 40,000 less gold. Only problem is you have to finish all other crafting quests before you can make it D:
  • New pet vendor - Marleybone now sells some pretty interesting pets in the pub where Croaky hangs out.
  • New friend options - You can now make it so that only your friends (and not their friends) can come to your house. Also, you can kick them out when you want >:D
  • New pet changes - Prices for pet hatching has gone down. They also made it so pets who have spellcards DANCE when you use the spell! :D
  • New Dragonspyre - Questing is easier in DS for a few reasons. The health of enemies is a bit lower, and towers have less levels on them. Also, you find quest items faster. Which is awesome for my necromancer since she just got there lol
  • New other stuff - You can read about it on the update notes HERE.
A lot of people mistook the major update to be the release of Celestia, but really it's going to be quite a while before they open it up. In fact, the release of just these updates won't be till around the end of summer (sometime in August), so Celestia will be even later than that. I already can tell KI will be getting a lot of angry comments because anyone who went through the warehouse (which is very similar to Briskbreeze) was not too happy to find out they couldn't get into Celestia yet. The best advice I have for everyone is to be patient. It takes a lot of time and effort to create a whole world! Also, the more time they take to perfect it, the better our gaming experience will be. They want to make it worth our money, ya know.

Anyways, that's pretty much it. I'm off to the test realm to splurge with my fake crowns XD

Safe journeys everyone!

Oh. My. Bartleby.

Holy heckhound, the TEST REALM HAS OPENED!

Celestia, here I come!

That's Life! - Filming Info!

Since not many people read my blog I don't see any quandaries with posting this here even though I have a number limit for filming :P But I think it's important that people in the Wiz101 blogosphere have a chance to join in :3

I left updates on the original video thread but its not guaranteed that everyone will look at it so I decided to post here. This is what you'll need to know to be in it.

The info for filming is as follows:

- Date: Tuesday Jun. 22nd
- Time: 1pm to whenever (not sure how long the segment will take, but should be NO LONGER than an hour
- Place: Life school in Ravenwood (meaning IN the building, not in front)
- Server: Wu (may change during filming depending on how crowded it gets, but Wu is where we will be meeting up for sure)
- Who: Anyone. No level requirements, no school requirements. During filming we will be in our beginners robes, no wands or pets.
-Again, I have to stress that there can't be more than 30 people in the scene, not because I don't want that many but because of lag issues and cooperation issues. I can't imagine any more than that being able to follow directions as I say them.
- We can have a cast party afterward in Life tower, and anyone is invited! But that's if everyone would like to do that

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions please feel free to reply to this post or message me on wiz101central (username: throughthespiralgate). Also,  it would be a really big help for me if you could reply with the name of the character you will be using that day so that I know the difference between RSVPers and extras, and so I can credit you on the finished project. Either way, hope to see you there!

Safe journeys, everyone!

Just a filler between episodes. Hope you enjoy :D

That's Life! - A Wizard 101 series

You know that project I was talking about? Well, after several strenuous hours of editing and re-editing (and subtitling - not an easy feat), the first of many is complete!

That's Life! Episode 1: Under Controll

Friday, June 11, 2010

No life - A quick way to level up!

Remember that death wizard I have, the one I started and kind of abandoned as soon as I hit Marleybone? (I really strongly dislike questing in Marleybone >_>) Well, 3 cans of Coke, 14 hours and 2 tired eyes later I have gotten her out of Marleybone once and for all and have now started her on MooShu :D I am well aware of how insane this makes me sound and I embrace that. Because after half a day of running errands for lovelorn St. Bernards and snooty debutantes, I pretty much AM crazy.

Don't know if I have the same will power to finish up Mooshu in a day. But I know now I won't be in as much of a hurry because Mooshu actually has sidewalks, and less running back and forth. And oh glory, there are more teleport stones! Quests are easier, too. "Oh, go over into that rock garden and let me know when you're ready for more experience points."

In other news, I am going to be working on a special Wizard 101 project that I think will be uber cool. I've got it all outlined, now I just need to make it, which will take a bit of resources. But it will be worth it when it's complete, methinks. I will post about it when it's complete :D

Anyway, that's all I've got for now. Too foggy in the brain to write more.

Safe journeys everyone!

Wizard 101 - The Worst (and Best) Year I've Ever Spent

Seeing as how it's coming up on the anniversary of when I started playing Wizard 101, I decided I would write a review (or rather, a warning to potential newcomers) about the game. After all, it is very important to keep the influence of addictive drugs out of family life.

I've got to say, it's been a difficult year for me. Between being a straight C college student and lazing around the house, it's hard to find time for anything, especially video games. But the moment I saw the commercial for Wizard 101 on Cartoon Network, it was all over for me. There was nothing else that mattered more in my life. From then on it was Wizard 101 all day every day for the rest of my summer break. I thought I could quit anytime I wanted. In fact, I even tried a few times. I was a crowns player (crowns is the in-game currency for buying certain items that cannot be bought with gold), so the way it workedwas I would have 10,000 crowns with which to buy certain areas of the game (and they would go fast, believe me). It would be smooth sailing for a while, but then the dreaded would happen: I would run out. I would try so hard to wait until I had money for more, but the withdrawls would drive me crazy. Finally I would get my hands on some more crowns, and the cycle would begin again. You may be thinking, "Who could do such a thing to our youth?" Well, it's all the fault of one company.

KingsIsle is a notably small video game developer company in Austin, Texas. But don't let their size and seemingly innocuous location fool you. Behind their facade lie devious minds, conspiring their dastardly plans against humanity. And the fact that they have won numerous awards -- including the bronze on a list of top 10 MMO's since WoW and a NAPPA award from Parenthood -- is a testimony to how hard they will work to hook you on their product.

And it makes sense that so many people would get so hooked on it. It's an incredible fantasy world; one in which even a simple kid from a small, unknown world can become a master warlord across the fictional universe called "the Spiral". This game takes you on an amazing journey to distinct worlds that span all of culture and history, from the pyramid-laden deserts of Krokotopia to the steampunk era rooftops of Marleybone. The frightening thing about it is that, when you're caught in the grind of menial quests and finally getting tired of playing, you're sucked in once more by the beauty and unique qualities of the next world in the Spiral. It truly keeps the players coming back for more.

This purple mountain's majesty is centered in a world of deceit, addiction, and a nifty dinosaur.

Not to mention everyone's journey is different. Aside from the typical avatar customization, you can also choose how your wizard functions and grows. So far there are seven different schools for wizards, with seven different types of magic that have different effects on the enemies that players battle throughout the Spiral. Players can choose secondary schools for their wizards as well, or they can mix and match the spells to bring out the strongest potential of their own school's magic. It truly gives players free range to customize their characters to their full extent.

Warning: when playing this game you will get a sense of euphoria and invincibility. Do not drive or operate machinery while under the influence.

While the main plot of the game is typical (young wizard must conquer the evil villain to restore order to the universe), the branching story lines for each world in the spiral are all unique and very well thought-out. Players are sent on multitudes of small quests that slowly reveal the back story from before things went into chaos, defeating the bottom blocks of the pyramid of bad guys along the way. And as the story becomes more complex, the quests become more difficult, presenting the players with a constant challenge that satisfies their desires to become stronger wizards. Even when questing becomes scarce and the level cap is reached, farming and frequently added developments keep old players coming back to re-experience the feelings of discovery that new players have in spades.

That looks a lot like another kind of crystal, doesn't it?

Aside from all those things being very alluring, the most influential thing about the drug that is Wizard 101 is the fact that the dealers -- I mean, developers -- really listen to the player's suggestions on how to make the product better. They perform regular maintenance to eliminate bugs and add new little features here and there to make the gaming experience better. They truly work hard for the money they get. When players decide to make the leap from the free zone to the paying, they're getting more than just excellent graphics, a killer soundtrack and a well-written story line. They're getting the collaborative effort of very hard-working and talented people... and it's really worth every cent.

It's all fun and games till a magical talking tree loses its eye.

And so fellow players, potential players, and everyone at KingsIsle: I want you to know that I have spent 12 months, many sleepless nights, and around $200 on Wizard 101. And I don't want any of it back :)

Safe journeys, everyone!

Green is lucky - At least for me.

Well everyone, meet Autumn Greenleaf.

If she's an angel, I guess she'd be Farrah Fawcett.

Yes, I spent a lot of crowns on her outfit :D It's worth it cause she looks stylish and all the new wizards ooh and ahh at the Valor sword she has. She's one quest away from being level 15 and she's just barely* starting Krokotopia today. I decided to take the advice that a lot of people put on Wizard 101 Central and won't be giving her a secondary school. Instead she'll be studying ice all the way to tower shield, death until feint, and storm for whatever other points she may have. I think this is a pretty good plan since there aren't nearly as many life bosses as there are any other kind, and when I encounter life I can just use prism and a death wand/blade to get rid of shields. Plus it stinks to have to wait for 7 whole rounds just to get enough pips to use the good spells in a secondary school. Better to just have more stuff to power up your primary school spells. Once I get centaur I will be unstoppable. Now my main mission is to save up all my gold for a life house! :P

Mr. Pepper: "Good luck with that, you shopaholic!"
Safe journeys, everyone!

*Barely being used very loosely in this case. I actually just started this character the day before yesterday. Can anyone say "addict"?

You'll never go hungry again

What do you call a necromancer who marries rich? A gravedigger!

This has been Advice From Autumn. We now return to your regular program.

Back in the saddle - Or rather, the broomstick.

It's been a long time since I've played Wizard 101 extensively, let alone blogged about my progress. But seeing as it's summer break and I'm a bit burned out on Combat Arms, I decided to log in and see how things were going in the Spiral. And of course the Wiz101 Facebook memo saying the new pets were live definitely piqued my curiosity. Needless to say I was excited to see if my firezilla would have all the new features that the new pets did; lo and behold, I had a special "new" zilla that was already a teen (which was handy because I'd rather not get addicted to training it). I think the new pet area is great, it's a good place to waste time if you're tired of the regular grind of farming and want a little bit of old fashioned competition. I also like that you get exp. just from talking to the people there :P

Aside from that, I've already spent a lot of time farming some more on my Grandmaster, Autumn. I got a couple new swords, a new pet, and tons of loot to sell on my new life character, Autumn Greenleaf (yeah, yeah, I know. But I've tried all the other schools and none of them were the same. Life is the only one for me). I got $20 worth of crowns too and spent it on a wings mount, so now Autumn looks like a true valkyrie :P That's about the extent of my crown splurging. I decided that for the house I would save up 100,000 gold on my new character (an insane endeavor, I know). Shouldn't take too long, since all the loot I get on Autumn will be auctioned by Autumn Greenleaf. Malistaire will aid me greatly in this mission.

Hopefully the limited update will tide me over until the level cap is raised and Celestia is released. Until then I'll just be trying to farm bosses for swords and pets. I plan on making my home a huge pet reservation.

That's all for now. Safe journeys, everyone!
